GradeScan installs behind a planer to grade lumber for biological
and geometric defects. It can scan lumber at planer speeds above 3500 ft/min
and only displaces about 24 inches of your outfeed. Lucidyne’s GradeScan can
grade faster and is packed with more features than any other offering out there.
Plus, it was engineered to incorporate tremendous flexibility for future growth.

Integrate your moisture and MSR sensors with GradeScan
GradeScan inserts easily into a small space in your grading line but it is not isolated from the rest of your mill. It connects to your
present moisture meter and strength tester then uses that information in its grading decision. If these devices
can output
strength and moisture as a function of length (instead of just an average) GradeScan can use that information for
MSR/Moisture trim decisions. This and other information from GradeScan's SQL database
can also be accessed by your mill for
manufacturing throughput analysis,
specialized reports, and tracking a board from kiln to sorter bin.
GradeScan is more than a grading machine,
it helps you control your business.
Controlled Above Grade
GradeScan makes defect decisions
that purposely balance your above and below grade. Here are actual customer
grade check reports to prove it. We know your mill relies on us to avoid inspection failures and re-grades while decreasing
your above grade percentage.
Superior Geometric Feature Detection
Our imaging sensors find all of the "missing wood" on your board. But we don't stop there. Our
optimizer can do symbolic processing to find smooth bark
(planed bark that is not detected by geometric-only scanners as skip or wane) and
saddle wane
(very little missing wood).
We won't confuse large eased edges with wane because we look at the shape of the corners as well as measure them.
GradeScan can also separate skip from wane. You will be pleased to know that we
include a very light skip detection feature for your appearance grades.
High speed processing
Our system can run continuously at 3500 feet per minute. With a one inch gap between boards that translates to
430 eight-foot boards per minute.
You might not need to run that now, but you can be confident that this scanner can meet your
needs into the future.
Save boards in a test pack
GradeScan’s Package Builder tool will help improve your Quality Control Activities.
A package can be built based on grade(s)
and trimmed length, and then sent to a bin/tray or pull chain, trimmed or untrimmed. You can save a specific board, a
random set of boards or the next 50 No. 3's. And all boards are saved in a 50,000 board buffer so their data can be
retrieved hours later if need be!
Make your packages look better
The Warp Bridge will improve the appearance of your packages. After Hyne installed GradeScan
at its Tuan plant in Australia, they
realized their graders had not been able to correctly measure warp
on rapidly moving bouncing boards. Both the mill and their customers now report that their
packages
are straighter and better looking.
A design for future upgrades
When better sensors or even completely different types of sensors are available, GradeScan's architecture allows an easy upgrade path.
Your scanner will never be obsolete.
