A British Columbia, Canada, mill used GradeScan's RuleScribe to develop a new product for an I-Joist manufacturer. Normally, a lumber vendor would have to ship a car load of the new product to the client for suitability testing before acceptance. In this case their California client is also a GradeScan customer. Instead of shipping lumber, the Canada mill sent scanned lumber computer files via the Internet. The files were optimized off-line in the Californiar mill's GradeScan® system using their own proprietary grade rules. More conversations between the two mills made it possible for each to fine tune their needs and both parties subsequently saved lots of time, as well as hard cost for lumber and shipping!
